The problem

Skills that lapse unnoticed.

Emergency medicine requires trainees to maintain currency across a defined set of high-acuity procedural skills — intubation, central venous access, chest decompression, and others. Without a structured log, skills can lapse unnoticed, sign-off records are lost, and rosters are built on assumption rather than evidence.

REBEL Ready replaces that assumption with a live, accurate view of clinical readiness — for the trainee, the consultant, and department leadership.

Competency model

Three statuses. No ambiguity.

Each trainee–skill combination is automatically rated based on recency and case volume. Thresholds are configurable per skill or globally. The key clinical rule: simulation maintains amber status. A real case is always required to reach green.

Green — Competent
Recently performed enough real cases to be fully current. A real clinical case is always required — simulation alone cannot achieve green.
Amber — Needs refresh
Currency maintained by simulation only, or real cases becoming infrequent. Action recommended before status lapses to red.
Red — Lapsed
Threshold not met. Visible to the trainee and their supervising consultant. Requires a real case to restore currency.

Trainees log each case in seconds — skill, date, location, outcome, supervisor, and real vs. simulated. Every entry is time-stamped and permanent.

Cohort-level overview with filtering by grade, skill, and status. The "At Risk" view surfaces trainees with lapsing skills before they become a patient safety issue.

REBEL Ready is a mobile-first web application — accessible on any device without installation. Deployed at rebelready.ie with transactional email for invites, password resets, and welcome messages.

All data is stored in PostgreSQL with Drizzle ORM, providing a structured, auditable record suitable for clinical governance and accreditation requirements.
